This course introduces students to the foundations of Web Multimedia. General concepts related to Web multimedia are discussed as well as the development, acquisition, and integration of basic multimedia elements. Demonstration and hands-on practice are incorporated into the course.

After successfully completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • Define multimedia and its uses.
  • Compare and contrast analog and digital sound.
  • Describe common Web audio formats.
  • Compare and contrast analog and digital video.
  • Describe common Web video formats.
  • Identify and use helper applications available for audio and video on the Web.
  • Describe the basics of streaming media.
  • Integrate multimedia into Web pages using HTML tags.
  • Identify accessibility issues related to the use of multimedia on the Web.

Biography (back to top)

Lynne Stiegler is an instructor at Mohave Community College in Kingman Arizona. She has been active in development on the Web since 1992. Ms. Stiegler teaches instructional design as well as creating curriculum for and teaching Webmaster courses. She also created and served as Coordinator for the College for Innovation within Mohave Community College, a research and training institute designed to help Mohave's faculty move into educational technology. Aside from her teaching load, she is presently coordinating an Emerging Technologies outreach program for K-12 teachers in her county, a four-part program to teach basic technology utilization for the classroom.

Prior to her teaching career, Ms. Stiegler was in management consulting for over fifteen years.
